- Increase Asian Pacific American representation in educational policymaking

devoted to research and analysis of issues affecting Asian Pacific American

Economic Development
- Assure that programs available for unemployed and underemployed Asian Pacific
Americans are improved and that information on these programs be made readily
available
- Increase and broaden educational and training programs and resources to
meet the needs of unemployed and underemployed Asian Pacific Americans
- Identify and oppose workplace discrimination aimed at Asian Americans including
“glass ceilings” and “glass walls”
- Expand and maintain English as a Second Language programs
- Expand dialogue among Asian Pacific American communities to develop plans
for Asian Pacific American economic development
- Expand the amount and accessibility of resources for Asian Pacific American-owned
businesses
- Increase the number of Asian Pacific Americans in the economic policymaking
process
- Support understanding and build cooperation with organized labor
Human Services
- Work with other communities to expand human services and assure that public
and private funding is consistent with the needs and size of the Asian Pacific
American population
- Educate and empower Asian Pacific Americans about their rights to equal
access to services
- Assure access to services that are culturally and linguistically appropriate
- Recognize and address domestic and family violence as a widespread problem
within the Asian Pacific American community
- Support the establishment of universal health care
- Assure affordable housing for Asian Pacific American communities
- Support and develop programs to create alternatives to youth violence, substance
abuse, and school drop-outs
- Increase the number of Asian Pacific Americans staff in human service organizations
Civil Rights
- Address the rise in hate crimes against Asian Pacific Americans
- Monitor and address rising anti-immigrant sentiments, legislation, and policies
- Oppose linguistic discrimination and official language policies and legislation
- Assure equal access to public services, education, and the legal system
- Publicize and increase utilization of services provided by the courts, police,
hospitals, schools, etc.
- Support a reduction in the separation period for the reunification of immigrant
and refugee families
- Improve communications and working relations with law enforcement agencies
- Support the establishment of civilian review boards to examine police practices
- Build coalitions across ethnic/racial/gender lines to secure civil rights
for everyone
Community Development & Economic Empowerment
- Develop understanding within the Asian Pacific American community of differing
cultural values, needs, and interests and encourage the identification and
resolution of potential sources of misunderstanding and conflict
- Develop and support programs that address youth and family issues around
intergenerational understanding and pride
- Develop programs that bring together older and newer generations and create
awareness and respect
- Develop and support programs that build leadership capabilities in the Asian
Pacific American communities including among the youth
- Develop community and school projects aimed at increasing youth involvement
in the community
- Increase Asian Pacific American representation in government appointments
- Support efforts to recognize the diversity of Asian Pacific American communities,
to affirm the commitment to multiculturalism, and to improve cross-community
cooperation and coalition building
- Support bilingual education and increase learning opportunities in Asian
languages
- Establish a non-partisan Asian Pacific American political mechanism to coordinate
and support voter registration and education, political endorsements, fundraising,
candidacies, and other political activities
- Enhance understanding and skills relating to the political and policymaking
process including lobbying, community development, and accessing government
agencies and programs
- Establish internships in government offices and agencies and provide scholarships
for worthy interns
